About the faculty

The Faculty of History is training high qualified specialists for Romanian teaching and history research. History is among the oldest disciplines that have been taught in the higher education system of the Romanian Principalities. In Moldavia it has been present since 1808 (Socola Seminary of Iaşi) and the first Department of History was founded at the Mihăileană Academy, whose director was the illustrious Mihail Kogălniceanu. The nowadays faculty individualized in 1990.

In order to support research among its students, the faculty puts at their disposal a number of resources and facilities:

  • computer room with Internet access and e-mail for students and teachers
  • Archaeology laboratory that gives material restauration possibilities and has a permanent exhibition
  • specialized library, with a stock of 33 500 titles in 36 000 volumes and 394 Romanian and foreign journals
  • special library organized inside the Contemporary History Department
